Carlos Odria, Guitar

Originally from Lima, Perú, Carlos Odria holds a Ph.D. in Musicology from the Florida State University,  where he also earned a certificate in World Music Performance. He studied classical and Latin American folk guitar with acclaimed Peruvian guitarist Pepe Torres. Later on, he pursued advanced jazz studies with Richie Zellon, one of the forerunners of Afro-Peruvian jazz, and jazz guitar arranging with editor, composer, and performer Dr. Leo Welch. In 2014, the debut album of Omnimusica, an ensemble in which Carlos was the lead guitarist, was included on the official ballot for the 57th Grammy Awards, in the World Music category. Dr. Odria has performed at concert halls, universities, and festivals, including the Lazzara Concert Hall (Univ. of North Florida), Lee Hall Auditorium (Florida A&M Univ.), Gleason Performing Arts Center (Florida Institute of Technology), Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, Jacoby Symphony Hall, the prestigious Friday Musicale Chamber Series, Whitehead Auditorium (Valdosta State Univ.), Ruby Diamond Auditorium (Florida State Univ.), Florida’s Governor Mansion, Gloria Shott Performance Hall (Univ. of North Georgia), University of Florida’s School of Music, Albany State Univ., Thomas University, College of Central Florida, St. Augustine Amphitheatre, Gamble Rogers Music Festival, and Darton State College. He has been a featured artist at the Florida Folk Festival and Director of the Florida State University’s Latin American music ensemble, Aconcagua (2009-2013). Currently, he teaches music at University of Massachusetts – Boston and Clark University.
