Geoff Oehling, Double Bass, Violin, Cello

Geoff Watson Oehling has had a 30 year career playing the contrabass (upright bass, stand-up, the doghouse) that has been as diverse and rich as the instrument he plays. He has been able to maintain a career that crosses genres and allows him a truly diverse musical life.

Geoff was extremely fortunate to study classical double bass performance at the Hartt School of Music with the illustrious Gary Karr, and benefited from being one of Gary’s last protégés. At Hartt Geoff won several awards and competitions, giving him opportunities to perform with such players as the Emerson Quartet, Joshua Bell, and the Hartford Chamber Ensemble.

Despite his love of classical repertoire, Geoff needed more musical challenges and has sought and fulfilled his desire in the wonderful greater Worcester area.

He has been the bassist for a number of the areas most successful bands – Niki Luparelli & the Gold Diggers (best jazz band in 2010 & 2011); Andy Cummings & Swingabilly Lounge (best album); Dale Lepage & the Manhattans (best jazz band 9 years running); as well as performing in local theatre productions and sneaking his classical songbook whenever he can. Most recently Geoff has joined the Carlos Odria Trio which has extended his vocabulary once again and provided a new world of challenges.

In addition to performing, Geoff has been an active double bass, violin and cello teacher for more than twenty years.
